About Us
Mission Statement
The Black Heritage Council seeks to recognize and celebrate the contributions of individuals who positively impact those of black heritage and to promote higher education through the Fischler School of Education and Human Services (FSEHS).
Additionally, the Black Heritage Council (BHC) has established the following goals:
- To recruit and support black students to matriculate at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in its undergraduate and graduate programs.
- To encourage the recruitment and employment of black faculty members to increase the level of student and faculty understanding of the diversity and cultural experiences of people of the African Diaspora.
- To encourage black NSU students to pursue terminal degrees in their areas of specialization in order to increase the number of Ph.D. and Ed.D. holders within the South Florida job market.
- To work with NSU in the development of a black studies curriculum that reflects the breath and diversity of language and history representing the South Florida community.
- To promote scholarly lectures, presentations, and forums that explore issues relevant to the African Diaspora experience in all its diversity.
- To work with black student organizations within the NSU campuses to honor and promote the entire breath of languages, cultures, history and heritages that comprise the African Diaspora experience.
- To develop relationships with the public school systems of South Florida to collaborate in the promotion of the goals and objectives of the Black Heritage Council.
- To solicit local businesses to provide financial assistance and in-kind support for the annual scholarship and awards ceremonies.
- To engage in any and all activities that promotes the goals and mission of the Black Heritage Council.
- To convene an annual awards event to celebrate the heritage and achievements of blacks in the South Florida Community.
