Description Flagler County Controlled School Choice Program allows a student in grades kindergarten through eighth grade to attend any district school if there is available space. Due to the District having only one high school, School Choice is not available at the 9th-12th grade levels.
Controlled/Open Enrollment
There are:
1- K-6 School
3- Elementary Schools
1- K-8 School
1- Middle School
1- High School
No Charter Schools
All of the schools participating in the Controlled School Choice Program are high performing A schools. At this time all students and their siblings currently participating in School Choice will be allowed to remain in their chosen school placement until progressing on to the next level of education facility. There is limited School Choice for students at many schools due to overcrowding. The district anticipates the opening of a new K-5 facility with in the next year. The opening K-5 facility will allow an existing K-8 school to become only a 6-8 facility. With the building of the new K-5 and the expansion of the middle school, we anticipate alleviating some of the overcrowding and thus, offer parents more choices.
There is a Parent Center available to all district parents. The center is stocked with student reading material, educational materials, including 5 Brainchild Learning Systems and information available for parent checkout at any time. Information regarding School Choice is also made available to parents via news advertisements, district website postings, speaking engagements held by the program coordinator throughout the community and postings at each school site and various community locations.
Mentee District: Bradford County
Transportation Information Zone System
Everyone gets transportation.
There is a district designed comprehensive shuttle system that affords all students easy access to the school of their choice. Students are transported to their home schools where they are then transferred to a shuttle bus that transports them to their school of choice. At the end of the school day each student is then transported back to his or her home school to catch their final bus home. The average number of transfers for choice students is one, duration of transportation schedule is less than one half hour and the average number of miles is 12.5.
Application Information Controlled Open Enrollment application available January through April.
A lottery will be held if requests outnumber openings at schools.
The following schools are accepting new students:
Bunnell Elementary
Indian Trails K-8 School
Old Kings Elementary School
