| Description | Open Enrollment Controlled Choice One hundred percent of district students are offered choice through St. Lucie County Open Enrollment Controlled Choice Program. Controlled Choice offers stability- once enrolled in a school, your child will not have to leave the school due to redistricting. The county is divided into three geographically described choice zones, each including portions of Fort Pierce and Port St. Lucie. All zones contain several elementary schools, one to three middle schools, and one or two high schools. Assignment is determined by zone, seat availability, proximity to school, and sibling preference. There are 34 schools serving over 30,000 students. These are:

| Application Information | When enrolling in the St. Lucie County School District, parents rank the schools in their residental zone from first to last choice. Through a lottery, with consideration of parent preferences, siblings, proximity, and seat availability, students are assigned to a school in their zone. In addition, parents may choose one of five magnet schools in the district. Parents are notified of the "open enrollment" periods for Choice in February (high school) and March and April (elementary and middle schools) of each year. Parents can apply during one of four "choice application periods" for the schools that best meet their needs. All applications are processed during the end of the choice application period. Assignment is determined by zone, seat availability, proximity to school, and sibling preference. Magnet Schools have waiting lists ordered by the date of application. The Student Assignment Office uses a computer system to determine the placement. If you don't get your first or second choice for elementary or middle school, then your child's name automatically goes on a wait list for the first choice school only. Applications are available at any school or Student Assignment Office. |
