Presentation Description

Title - A Framework for Managing Distance Education

In recognition of the need to support faculty with campus-wide initiatives in delivering distance education, a centralized faculty development unit called the Innovation Zone (IZone) was established at Nova Southeastern University in the Fall of 2000. The purpose of the IZone was to provide support for online teaching solutions while developing and implementing a variety of pedagogical online teaching models. The presentation will serve as a success model demonstrating how the centralized unit managed and adapted resources as it increased course production from 30 courses to approximately 1100 courses over a three year period. Additionally the model presented will demonstrate the inter-relatedness of the processes and the technological tools that were developed as essential components resulting in an effective faculty support structure.
