Susan M. Zvacek has been involved with educational technology since the early 1980s and has worked in community college, university, and adult education environments. Currently, she is the Director of Instructional Development and Support at the University of Kansas, coordinating instructional design and development activities for online coursework, and offering seminars and workshops related to distance education and technology integration.

Dr. Zvacek holds a B.A. in Speech from Iowa State University , a Master's in Education from the University of Utah , and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instructional Technology, also from Iowa State University . She was a faculty member at the University of Northern Colorado from 1998 to 1994, where she taught undergraduate teacher education courses and graduate courses in educational technology. She also developed and taught graduate courses at Old Dominion University , where she was the Director of the Center for Learning Technologies, and at Nova Southeastern University , where she is an adjunct faculty member of the Instructional Technology and Distance Education department and dissertation advisor.

Her scholarly work has been primarily in the field of educational technology, with publications and presentations at national conferences on topics such as distance education, faculty development, and the assessment of learning using online tools. She is co-author of a popular textbook, Teaching and Learning at a Distance, now in its second edition.

An Iowa native who has also lived in Colorado , Utah , Missouri , and Virginia , she now resides in Lawrence , Kansas .
