About the Concentration

The doctor of education with a concentration in instructional technology and distance education is designed specifically for individuals who want to lead the way in improving teaching and learning through the application of instructional theories and practices. This program will help practitioners develop leadership skills in distance education, instructional media, instructional technology, instructional design, and training. The doctoral program in instructional technology and distance education focuses on providing practitioners with the opportunity to learn specific skills that can be applied and transferred to the continually evolving process of instruction and serves as a model for how distance teaching and learning systems can operate

Mission Statement

The mission of the Instructional Technology and Distance Education concentration is to develop educators who can plan, organize, manage, and teach effectively using instructional technology in the classroom, on the job, and online through a variety of electronic delivery systems. The program is designed for professional educators and trainers who work with learners from prekindergarten through the university level and with adults in all areas of business and industry.

Who Should Apply

  • practicing professionals with backgrounds in teaching or administration, training and professional development, media technology, instructional technology, curriculum development, staff development, or distance education
  • individuals with master’s degrees or above who wish to obtain a doctoral degree and increase their knowledge and skills in instructional technology and distance education

Program Completion Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of both attendance requirements
    • DSO 8000 - Doctoral Studies Orientation
    • FSC 8000 -  Summer Conference (Conference on Global Leadership, Learning and Research)
  • Satisfactory completion of all required courses
    • Students must complete EDD 9200 prior to enrolling in EDD 9300. Students must complete EDD 9300 prior to enrolling in EDD 9100.
    • Students must complete EDD 9300 prior to enrolling in ARC 8917. Students must complete ARC 8912 prior to enrolling in ARC 8918.
  • successful completion of an applied dissertation
  • cumulative maintained grade point average of 3.0 or higher

Curriculum

Minimum Hardware and Software Recommendations:
ITDE students must have individual and personal access to a computer with Internet connectivity (broadband is a practical necessity) for media production, file management, e-mail, and online course activities. Laptop computers offer greatest convenience and are recommended.
