Externship
Course Description:
The Supported Teaching Externship was designed for those students who acquire full-time, contracted teaching positions* prior to completing the Supervised Teaching Internship. The student works with the guidance of a Nova Southeastern University supervisor assigned to assist with classroom management, lesson planning, short term and long term planning, using effective instructional strategies, and parent/teacher conferences. The NSU supervisor makes at least 5 supervisory visits during this time, and verifies the use of the accomplished practices for beginning teachers.
Steps to applying for the Supported Teaching Externship:
- Student must contact Dr. Fletcher via email to request a preliminary phone interview.
- student must be in good academic standing
- student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- After receiving Dr. Fletcher’s approval, the student must complete, save, and email her the EDU 689 Questionnaire .
- After reviewing and verifying the information, Dr. Fletcher will contact the student regarding registration.
- The Seminars will be delivered via WebCT.
- Student will need to print a copy of the EDU 689 Handbook.
*Externship students must successfully complete the Florida Teacher Certification Exam and provide evidence of employment.
