WebCT Startup
Instructions
for Accessing Your NGTE WebCT Classroom
This
page has been set up to get you started with your online course. Please
print and read it carefully. Remember, this is an online program. All
information regarding the courses and startup are provided electronically,
through your course area and/or this Website. We will not be sending
any materials or information in paper form.
Please
note that you will not be able to access your WebCT course area until
2 days prior to the course start date . The start date of the course
is set to begin on a Monday. Assignments and activities for the
week are due by midnight Saturday or Sunday of that week.
Check the NGTE program calendar for term start dates and check the CRNs (course registration numbers) on your program of study to see that they match those that appear on your WebCT desktop when you login to MyWebCT.
Contact
your Specialization Coordinator if
you have not registered for the correct courses.
Ordering Your Textbook -
If you have been officially registered in the NGTE program, please look on
the book
list for information about the course text. Most texts listed may
be ordered from Nova Book Store but if they do not have the text you need,
we have provided a list of online vendors who should have the book in stock
or in some cases you may order directly from the publisher via the Internet.
You will find a listing of online vendors on the book
list page. In order to keep online courses current, textbooks
may change, so delay purchase of your text until two weeks prior
to the course start date but please order your texts in advance of the course
start date. Shipment of your text may take from two days to two weeks,
depending on availability of the text.
How the Program Works -
Online education gives you the opportunity to learn and earn graduate credit without having to travel to a specific classroom location at a specific time. Here is how the program works:
NGTE Online Education courses are conducted entirely through the Internet, allowing you to receive and submit course work and interact with participants and your professor via your computer and modem. The predominantly asynchronous nature of the lessons, activities and communication methods allows you to participate in courses at times and places convenient to you. You will be expected to follow a weekly time frame in completing assignments and activities and participate in both synchronous and asynchronous communications as designated by your instructor.
Access
Your Course Area - All NGTE students must have an NSU
e-mail account to access their WebCT course areas. You must have
attained admission status in order to register and obtain your NSU
e-mail account.
If
you do not already have an NSU e-mail account, you may obtain one online
at https://www.nova.edu/sbin/account_request . Complete
all the information boxes and submit your registration. Use
the ID and password you have selected to log in to your WebCT course
area on your course start date. (NOTE: After completing the online
registration form, it takes 24 hours before you can login to WebCT. This
is the same login and password that you will use to access your email
and the Electronic
Library). While you are waiting for your
class to begin, it would be to your advantage to look at the website http://www.nova.edu/library/dils/tutorials/education/ designed
to help you understand the Electronic Library and searches. You
should also go through the WebCT student tutorial prior to your course
start date to familiarize yourself with the WebCT system.
It
is not necessary to download software to navigate your WebCT course area.
WebCT courses are accessed through the Internet. You may access your
course by pointing your browser to the NSU
WebCT Course Area at: http://www.nova.edu/webct/index.html. Please
check course CRNs listed on your desktop to see that they correspond
with those on your program of study.
What to Look for in the NGTE course areas on the WebCT System-
On the start date of the course, you should go to the WebCT system course area and log in using your NSU e-mail ID and password. Your course(s) should appear on your desktop by course number and CRN.
