Frequently Asked Questions


1.

Is financial aid available?
Yes. Apply at least 5 weeks prior to the beginning of the session in which you wish to receive financial aid. You must be degree-seeking to be eligible for financial aid.

2.

What skills and equipment do I need to participate in the online program?
Minimum System Requirements For The Online Education Program:*

Skills Required 

Participation in the NGTE Program requires basic computer skills that include: 

  • ability to send and receive email 
  • ability to establish an Internet connection using a browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape) and basic understanding of Internet navigation 
  • ability to upload/download and attach files 
  • word processing skills 
3.

How long does it take to complete the program?
On average, students complete their degree in less than one year (3 terms, each with two consecutive 6-week sessions, two courses taken per session).

4.

How many credits are required to complete the degree?
Most degree majors require a minimum of 36 semester hours.

5.

How many credits can be transferred into the program?
Six semester hours of graduate credit from a regionally accredited college or university may be transferred. The credits must be less than 5 years old with a grade of B or better. Some majors may require matching courses for transfer.

6.

When do classes meet?
Students begin online course work on the start date of the term, logging on to the course management system and entering their course area to access lectures, information, assignments, and activities posted by their professor. Each week, additional assignments and activities are completed as assigned.

7.

Is the GRE required?
The GRE is required only for students who do not have a 2.5 GPA in their undergraduate degree.  Admission information is included on the Admission form.

8.

What if I only plan to take one course?
Individual courses are not possible. Students must be enrolled in an established program of study.

9.

When can I register?
Registration ends 2 weeks before the term/session start date. On our main Web page, click on "Programs" for current information.

10.

When is the last day to drop/add courses?
You may drop/add a course before the start date of the term/session by e-mail or by phoning the program office.

11.

Do I have to formally apply to the program?
Yes. All students must submit a graduate admission application, which is accessible at  http://www.nova.edu/ngeonline. Click on  “Services.” Then click on "Forms." There is a $50 nonrefundable application fee.
