Mission Statement of the National Graduate Teacher Education Online Program
As a component of the Fischler School of Education and Human Services within Nova Southeastern University, the National Graduate Teacher Education Online Program is dedicated to quality educational practice, fulfilling the needs of the learning community and providing positive and meaningful adult learning experiences. It is the goal of the National Graduate Teacher Education Online program to provide distance learning opportunities for education professionals at times and places convenient to them.
The purpose of the National Graduate Teacher Education Online Program is to provide quality distance education through utilization of research, guided activities and practical experience to a diverse population of professional educators.
NGTE Online provides a virtual learning community that corresponds with the focus of Nova Southeastern University in providing educational programs of distinction at times and in locations convenient to the learner and promoting an atmosphere of creativity and innovation utilizing technology where appropriate.
PREREQUISITE SKILLS:
- Access the Internet through your Internet service provider (ISP)
- Send and receive e-mail (Most messaging will be handled through WebCT, your course management system.)
- Use a browser (Netscape Communicator, Internet Explorer) and search engines, as well as a desktop or notebook computer with Windows 95 or Macintosh 7.1 or above operating system.
- Upload, download, and attach files.
- Word process.
HOW NGTE COURSES WORK:
Each course is organized into six weeks. Students should plan to spend a minimum of 3 to 5 hours per week reading and working online exploring and examining Internet sites, searching for related materials, and preparing assignments. Offline activities include reading the course text(s) and preparing assignments. All necessary information pertaining to assignments and resources for the course will be posted in the course area of your course management system.
