The National Graduate Teacher Education (NGTE) Online Program

Students admitted to  the NGTE Online Program are assigned to a cluster. They follow a clearly established program of study for their specialization and must comply with program requirements for degree candidacy and completion. Clusters begin Fall 1, Winter 1, or Summer 1 as enrollment demands. Students will complete their program in 3 terms. Each of these terms (Fall, Winter, and Summer) comprises two sessions: Fall 1 and 2, Winter 1 and 2, and Summer 1 and 2. Students take 2 courses per session. Courses are 3 credits each.

Example: Registrants beginning Winter 1 would complete 2 courses (6 credits). Each course lasts for 6 weeks. Then they would take 2 courses (6 credits) during Winter 2. The process would repeat for Summer 1 and 2 ( again a total of 12 credits). Students would complete their cycle during Fall 1 and 2 (12 credits) and would have a total of 36 credits by the end of their program of study.

NGTE Online students must register for both sessions prior to the registration deadline for each term.

Courses that do not meet minimum enrollment will be canceled.

Participants should contact their state department of education for guidance in obtaining certification or licensure or local school district for approval in fulfilling district-level incentive programs. Certification requirements vary by state and district. Participants must comply with all program requirements for degree candidacy and completion.

What is Online Education?

Online Education courses are conducted through the Internet, allowing students to receive and submit course work and interact with participants and professors via a computer and Internet connection. The predominantly asynchronous nature of these methods allows students to participate in courses at times and places convenient to them. Participants log into the course management system (WebCT) each week to complete activities and assignments and to interact with the professor and other students in the class. All registrations, correspondence, and course participation are conducted electronically.[Top]
