If you have been officially registered in the Graduate Education
Online Program, please look on the
book list for information about the course text. Most texts
listed may be ordered from Nova Book Store but if they do not
have the text you need, we have provided a list of online vendors
who should have the book in stock or in some cases you may order
directly from the publisher via the Internet. You will find a
listing of online vendors under texts
on the information page. In order to keep online courses current,
textbooks may change, so delay purchase of your text until two
weeks prior to the course start date but please order
your texts in advance of the course start date. Shipment of your
text may take from two days to two weeks depending on availability
of the text.
How the Program
Works -
Online education gives you the opportunity to learn and earn graduate
credit without having to travel to a specific classroom location
at a specific time. Here is how the program works:
Online Education courses are conducted entirely through the Internet,
allowing you to receive and submit course work and interact with
participants and your professor via your computer and modem. The
predominantly asynchronous nature of the lessons, activities and
communication methods allows you to participate in courses at
times and places convenient to you. You will be expected to follow
a weekly time frame in completing assignments and activities and
participate in both synchronous and asynchronous communications
as designated by your instructor. Most communication is conducted
Monday through Friday, during standard office hours. Some instructors
may respond during off hours or weekends.
Access Your
Course Area - All Online Education Program students must
have an NSU e-mail (UNIX) account to access their WebCT course
areas. You must have attained admission status in order to register
and obtain your NSU e-mail account.
If you do not already
have an NSU e-mail (UNIX) account, you can obtain one by going
to the NSU e-mail (UNIX) at https://www.nova.edu/sbin/account_request.
Complete all the information boxes and submit your registration.
Use the ID and password you have selected to log in to your WebCT
course area on your course start date. (NOTE: After completing
the online registration form, it takes 24 hours before you can
login to WebCT). This is the same login and password that
you will use for the Electronic
Library. While you are waiting for your class to begin,
it would be to your advantage to look at the website http://www.nova.edu/library/dils/tutorials/education/ designed to help you understand the Electronic Library and
searches.
If your course is listed
among those being delivered through WebCT, it is not necessary
to download software. You may access your course by pointing your
browser to the NSU
WebCT Course Area at: http://www.nova.edu/webct/index.html You should do this two to three days
prior to the start date of the course so that you can begin to
learn to navigate the system. You enter the system directly via
the Internet.
WebCT Practice
Course - In the NSU WebCT Course Area at http://www.nova.edu/webct/index.html,
select "Login to WebCT". Use your NSU login and password,
the same one used to access the NSU Electronic Library, to access
the secured area. Once you have entered the My WebCT course area,
click on "Add Course" and select the WebCT Practice
Course (the one with the key). Click on the Register
button; do not enter your name. Now click on "Return to My
WebCT" and you can click on the underlined practice course
name to begin practice.
What to Look
for in the GTEP and Course Areas on the WebCT3 System-
On the start date of the course, you should go to the WebCT3 system
course area and log in using your NSU e-mail (UNIX) ID and password.
Your course(s) should appear on your desktop by course number
and CRN. Your instructor will have posted the course syllabus
and information regarding location of each week's lecture, resources,
assignments and activities and how and where to respond with your
completed work in the "Start Here" area of the course.
Example of

in the user name. Click OK.

"authorization failed" it is because you did not
restart your browser. Click OK and enter your correct user
name and password
- Prior to the course
start date, go through the WebCT3 practice course to familiarize
yourself with the WebCT system.
Attendance:
Weekly communication/participation is required. Students who have
not logged checked in to their WebCT course by the end of the
first week will be dropped from the course with full tuition refund.
Chat Sessions:
You will be asked to meet with your instructor and others in your
class at a specific time for synchronous communication sessions
a minimum of three times during the course but generally, class
meetings are asynchronous. To gain access into the GTEP WebCT
chat area, you must first be in your course section and select
the chat icon.
Completion
of Assignments:
Online courses are predominantly set up in an asynchronous format.
This means you may complete course work at your convenience within
the time frame designated by your instructor. Should
you have difficulty in meeting these deadlines, you should contact
your instructor through e-mail and discuss circumstances and alternatives.
Remember, online courses require completion of projects and assignments
in a timely manner.
Assignments:
- Each student must
attend a minimum of 3 chat sessions. If the student is unable
to attend a chat session, a make-up assignment will be to review
the chat log and submit a summary to the instructor. The summary
will include the key points covered and how the information
will be applied.
- The first day of
the week is Monday -- therefore, assignments are considered
late if not received by midnight on Sunday. Assignments that
are received late will be graded one letter grade lower.
- Students must follow
APA guidelines for written work as specified in the APA Manual
5th Edition.
Assignments
should be posted in your GTEP WebCT course area as designated
by your instructor.
