The Educational Specialist degree with a specialization in Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) builds upon either a background in TESOL or TEFL on the Masters level. The core area courses focus on broader issues of second language development, international assessment, historical and cultural perspectives, technology, and the latest research in the field. The Specialist program can be taken as a final degree in the area of second language teaching or as a bridge to doctoral level studies. Students taking this program will expand their vision of teaching English as a second language to include historical and international dimensions, as well as prepare them for doctoral research in related areas. When appropriate, these courses may be taken independently as doctoral level electives.
