STUDY ABROAD PROGRAMS IN EUROPE

Create something in Sweden!

International Arts & Culture Infusion in Sweden

International Arts & Culture Infusion, 3 credits - Oskarshamn, Sweden (July 21 - August 4, 2013)

Create something. GLOBAL

A dynamic group of international artists

A beautiful European setting

Music · Theatre · Dance · Design

An intercultural exchange like no other

Work side-by-side with European-trained artists to create an interdisciplinary arts production in this two-week summer course offered by Nova Southeastern University 's Abraham S. Fischler School of Education. This unforgettable European adventure provides the opportunity to explore the arts, education, and culture in beautiful Sweden.

This course runs in conjunction with a cultural exchange workshop for Swedish and American teenagers in the artistic city of Oskarshamn, presented by Lovewell Institute for the Creative Arts. Lovewell stresses creative problem solving, critical thinking, and authentic experience as students work together to create an original interdisciplinary arts production in just three weeks. Under the guidance of an empowering team of Swedish and American artist-teachers, young creators brainstorm ideas, write their own characters and script, compose songs, choreograph dances, and assist with costuming, set design, lighting, and the recording of the cast album.

The methodology behind the Lovewell Institute for the Creative Arts youth programs has been nationally recognized as a prime example of "best practices" in arts education and social action, designated by the U.S. President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities as one of the nation's most effective arts education programs. This experiential approach to a common goal creates a fertile learning environment and an educational opportunity that stimulates many learning styles, especially in this highly aesthetic international setting. The International Arts and Culture Infusion summer course in Sweden facilitates expansive and creative thinking in students, artists, teachers, schools, and ultimately ripples out helping to create a true international cultural community.

As a participant, you will.

  • follow the development of the creative process through the opening night of an original bi-lingual interdisciplinary musical theatre production
  • explore Swedish, Scandinavian, and European arts and culture
  • interact with Swedish and American artists, students, and Lovewell staff
  • observe arts education and participate in hands-on creative exercises
  • receive optional course credit from Nova Southeastern University

For additional credit, you may opt to complete an artistic project in your field in conjunction with the two-week trip.
