Executive Director

Executive Director Ralph Hogges, Ed.D., is an expert in college and university management, leadership, and public policy. He has more than thirty years of experience in a variety of leadership positions in higher education and is currently the founder and executive director of the Institute for Public Policy and Executive Leadership in Higher Education (IPPEL), in the Fischler School of Education and Human Services at Nova Southeastern University (NSU).

He formerly served as a professor and director of the master's program in Human Services at NSU. Founded in 2004, the Institute is designed to prepare college and university administrators and faculty members with the skills and expertise to become successful presidents, vice presidents, and deans. It also develops and distributes public policy reports and publications. Prior to his tenure at NSU, Hogges served in a variety of management and leadership positions at Florida International University and Florida Memorial University.

Appointed by the Governor, he served a four year term as a member of the Postsecondary Education Planning Commission (PEPC) for the State of Florida. In this capacity, he served as an adviser to the Governor, state board of education and legislature on matters relating to postsecondary education. He has also served as a major adviser in several political campaigns.

Hogges is a former columnist for the Miami Courier Newspaper and current founder, host and moderator of the Monthly Scholars' Roundtable and Forum at the FSEHS. He is the author of four books, including Public Policy and Colleges and Universities: A Resource Guide for Executives in Higher Education, numerous articles and reports and has served on several editorial boards. He is the co-editor of the book, Leadership and Policy in Higher Education, sheduled to be published in 2009.

The recipient of numerous honors and awards and highly sought as a national lecturer, presenter and consultant on senior executive leadership and public policy, Hogges earned his B.S. in social studies and M.Ed. in college student personnel administration at Tuskegee University. He earned the Ed.D. in higher education administration at Nova Southeastern University and has done postdoctoral studies at the University of Miami and Harvard University's Graduate School of Education, where he earned the Certificate in Management and Leadership in Education (MLE).
