Career Academy Toolkit
Career academies are emerging as a promising high school reform effort. By blending high academic standards with contextual, real world learning experiences, career academies are gaining increasing acceptance among educators, the business community, policymakers, parents, and students.
The Career Academy Toolkit online course is designed for use by educators and administrators who are contemplating or initiating a career academy or other type of small learning community. The course incorporates video clips, brief online lectures, PowerPoint presentations, and group discussions to fully explore this emerging approach to school reform. The course involves a variety of interactive assignments that culminate with the completion of a multi-faceted action plan that can be used to start or strengthen any type of small learning community. Online content and resources would be used in tandem with the course textbook: Career Academy Toolkit: A Think It Through, Get It Going, Make It Happen Planning Guide for Career Academies and Other types of Small Learning Communities.
