About Diversity

What is Diversity?

You may start by taking a broad and inclusive view of the definition of diversity. The Office of Community Education and Diversity Affairs (OCEDA) at the Fischler School of Education and Human Services (FSEHS) believes diversity means (but not limited to) understanding and valuing the characteristics and beliefs of those who demonstrate a wide range of characteristics. This includes ethnic and racial backgrounds, age, physical and cognitive abilities, family status, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religious and spiritual values, and geographic location.

Promoting Diversity

In promoting diversity, FSEHS at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) pledges to respect and value personal uniqueness and differences; to attract and retain diverse faculty, staff, and students; to challenge stereotypes; and to promote sensitivity and inclusion. OCEDA understands the value that a diverse student body, faculty, staff, and administration bring to its educational environment, the metropolitan community and beyond. We must refrain from making group stereotypes. Rather, in each of our roles, as educators and as association members and staff, each person must be treated with respect and valued as an individual.

This page is but one way of highlighting all kinds of diversity and diversity resources.  OCEDA invites you to explore the resources posted and to contribute in any way that you can to continue to introduce our students and the FSEHS family to information and experiences that are global in perspective.
