2012 Conference on
Global Leadership,
Learning, and Research

General Information

The Abraham S. Fischler School of Education will hold its annual Conference on Global Leadership, Learning, and Research at Disney's Contemporary Resort in Orlando, Florida, from Sunday, July 8, through Friday, July 13, 2012.  The 2012 summer conference will provide students with multiple research opportunities for first-time participants and returning students. Following is a description of the 2012 summer conference venues available to students:

Students who began the Ed.D. OR SLP.D. program in the Fall 2011 and Winter 2012 semesters

  • Register for ARC 9300 for the summer 2012 semester. Registration for the summer 2012 semester opens March 26, 2012. ARC 9300 is a 15-week, 3-credit summer course consisting of preconference activities, participation in the summer conference, and post-conference activities. ARC 9300 is designed to provide students with targeted and intensive assistance for the completion of the concept paper benchmark. The summer semester starts May 7, 2012.
  • Students who will be starting a doctoral program in the summer 2012 semester will have the option to register for ARC 9300 this year or wait until the 2013 summer semester.

Returning students and students who began the Ed.D. or SLP.D. program prior to Fall 2011 and have yet to meet the program requirement of attending summer conference

Two options are available to students:

  • Option A: Students can register for ARC 9300 for the summer 2012 semester. ARC 9300 will be considered an elective course for students in the Ed.D. program of study.  SLP.D. students do not have this option.
  • Option B:  Students can register for FSC 8000 or FSC 8005 to participate in the 2012 summer conference as a one-week, fee-based, noncredit experience.

Attending the summer conference is a requirement for degree conferral. It is imperative that students who began the Ed.D. program before the Fall 2011 semester, and have yet to attend summer conference, must participate in the 2012 summer conference.

In addition to a full week of activities available for all students, additional preconference activities have been designed for returning students. These activities include a special guest speaker, small-group sessions with committee chairs, and one-on-one sessions with an Applied Research Center (ARC) professor for the analysis of data (quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods).  Sessions specifically created for returning students are being offered throughout the week. These sessions include (a) Writing Chapter 2, (b) Writing Chapter 3, (c) Writing Chapter 4, (d) Writing Chapter 5, (e) Technical Writing, and (f) Research Methods.  The ARC urges all returning students to participate in the 2012 summer conference either via ARC 9300 or by enrolling for the summer conference event only.  Both options are designed to provide multiple opportunities for students to successfully complete the dissertation benchmarks.
All students who are required to enroll in ARC 9300 or who are required or choose to participate in the summer conference event must register during the summer 2012 registration period starting March 26, 2012.

The summer conference is also open to NSU alumni and to the general public.
