Attendance and Course Information

FIRST YEAR DOCTORAL STUDENTS

For first-year doctoral students who are required to attend the Summer Conference, registration for the Conference and FSEHS summer term classes will be open from March 24 through May 2, 2008. Students must register for FSC 8000 (Fischler Summer Conference) in addition to their required summer course. The conference fee of $150.00 is attached to the FSC 8000 course.

Students are permitted to take only one research or one core course (i.e. Trends & Issues or Methods of Inquiry) connected to the Summer Conference. Enrolling in more than one course connected to the Summer Conference will prohibit a student from meeting all of the Summer Conference requirements and subsequently may jeopardize credit being awarded.  All courses begin on May 5, 2008 and will demand a great deal of online work.  During the conference, students will be required to be in class either all day Tuesday (7/29) or all day Wednesday (7/30) depending upon the specific course chosen.  Students who are in class on Tuesday will participate in mandatory roundtable sessions on Wednesday afternoon, while students who are in class on Wednesday will participate in mandatory roundtable sessions on Tuesday afternoon.  On the morning a student is not in class (either Tuesday or Wednesday), the student will be required to attend the dissertation workshops.

The Dissertation Workshops (including, but not limited to the Concept Paper, Proposal, and Final Report) will be offered at the Conference. These sessions are open to all students interested in attending on a first come, first served basis depending on the seating capacity of each of the meeting rooms. The sessions will take place at the Contemporary Resort and will be repeated several times throughout the week.

At the completion of the summer term and verification that all requirements (classes, roundtable sessions, and workshops) have been met, a grade of “Pass” will be applied to FSC 8000 and will be reflected on your transcript.

RETURNING DOCTORAL STUDENTS

Currently enrolled doctoral students who have already fulfilled their summer conference requirement are welcome to attend the 2008 Conference. Anyone interested in attending must register for FSC 8005 ($150.00 conference fee is attached) during the summer term registration period (March 24-May 2, 2008).  Please note that if you have not previously attended a Summer Conference you must register for FSC 8000 regardless of what year you are in the program.

GENERAL PUBLIC

The Summer Conference is open to the public. Anyone interested in attending should fill out the registration form on this Website. The registration form, along with the method of payment should be faxed to Ms. Carole Benedict at (954) 262-3906. Registration forms will be accepted from March 12 through July 1, 2008. Once registration closes, attendees must register in person at the Conference. A $50.00 late fee will be added to the normal $150.00 conference fee.

REGISTRATION FOR SUMMER TERM COURSES

Summer term registration will open on Monday, March 24, 2008 and will close on May 2, 2008. In order to register for summer term classes (whether they are offered at the Summer Conference or not) students must login to WebSTAR when registration opens. For Summer Conference classes please CAREFULLY review the schedule at the link below when it is available. Be sure to register for the correct course. The correct course will depend on the first term of enrollment which is explained on the Required Course page. Students may also register for an online concentration course this summer. Please note, however, that those courses will NOT be offered at the Summer Conference in Orlando, and the concentration course will not satisfy the Summer Conference requirements.

If you have questions regarding registration for courses offered in conjunction with the Summer Conference, please contact a Doctoral Enrollment Counselor for assistance at 1-800-986-3223, ext. 1546.
